Book Review: Curiosity
In the distant future, when the surface of the earth is wasted and dying, a group of survivors make their way to the depths of the ocean to build a different kind of future, in domed cities. Several hundred years later these survivors have expanded into a large underwater nation known as Oceania.
With the aid of the Merrans - humans genetically modified to live and breathe both in the water and in the domes - life has never been better for the human race. Argent, a young Merran with budding abilities, becomes a fugitive from the government that created him when he witnesses a kidnapping. He does everything he can to stay under the radar, but there are only so many places to hide in an underwater society. With the help of a friend and the resources of a mysterious family, Argent unravels the shady past of his race, and the part that the government played in starting a war that he’s not sure he wants them to win.
Espionage, secrets, lies, and love all come to a head as Argent confronts his future and his fate. Is he ready to fight for the ideals that have been ingrained in him, or will he make different choices when it comes down to it?
My Review
I really liked the world that the author built for this book. The descriptions are great and the characters very engaging. It was like I was transported to Oceania with Argent. So, this was really good as it helped immerse me into the story right away.
The only downside I had with this book, is that it did feel like after the first event in the first chapter, it took a while for anything exciting again to happen. I felt like it was not until about a third of the way into the story that I really became engaged again and then I was hooked.
I do like Argent and his friends, Luna and Doro. There is a bit of chemistry between Luna and Doro and Argent and Sisani. There is a cliffhanger ending but I am invested and want to know how the story continues.
