Book Review: Seven Paper Skies

We were supposed to be best friends forever, but life has a way of throwing curveballs at you. The time we spent together was something I knew that I would cherish forever. Forever. A word I thought meant a lifetime as a child, though now I know it means something different. I was glad to find him again so we could have one more lifetime together. I kept my secret as long as I could because I wanted him to remember me as I was, not as what I had become. Best friends forever or until the road ends? Please note: This story has content that may be triggering to some, including but not limited to: sexual assault, drug use, and violence. Please read responsibly. My Review OMG. I am not crying, you are crying. I did not realize just how emotionally attached I would become to Dougie and Jellyfish. Yolonda shows you that not every story has to be romantic or have an HEA to be very impactful. A must read. Grab your tissues.  Dougie aka Toad and Betty Jo aka Jellyfish have known each other s...

Book Review: Venom

Masks are worn by those that seek to hide who they truly are. I wear my real face day in and day out. I’m never far away from those that need me. I’m even closer to those that don’t. Is life truly worth living or do those want to kiss the sweet lips of Death deserve the release? Those that do aren’t worthy of being here. Those that don’t are my favorite games to play. I’ve found a new pawn; one that believes everything and nothing all at once. That existence is meaningless and fulfilling all at the same time. The worst is yet to come. My Review Talk about a "stone cold" killer. Esther is just that. She has no heart, just an empty hole where her heart used to be. That is why she is the perfect fit for La Douleur Folle. It is where she conducts her work with her "contracts". The "contracts" beg her for quick releases, but she always holds them to their agreement.  WOW! That is my first thought after reading this book. My brain is still trying to wrap aroun...

Book Review: Playing His Game

They’ll have their vengeance—and their pleasure, too. Revenge is like ice cream. Best served cold, and in bed. And nobody serves up revenge like the villains in these stories. Because there is no better way to exact your revenge than to make your target crave your touch. To make them beg you for their pleasure, to drive them to the brink of madness as they scream your name. To make them believe you might actually love them…before you tear their lives to shreds. Playing His Game by Yolanda Olson Adrian and Noah are stepbrothers.  Yet, they are more than just stepbrothers. They are hiding a secret...they love each other. Both are in rival fraternities. Prank wars ensue.  I liked this MM romance story. It is a bit angsty. You could feel the emotions that Adrian and Noah shared for each other. Where the two stepbrothers are concerned, I did feel for Noah. He had a lot more to live up to regarding his father's expectations. So, I was glad that he found someone like Adrian th...

Book Review: Where Monsters Hide

T his wasn’t what I signed up for. Hell, I don’t ever remember signing up for anything at all, but when there were debts to be paid, and time had run out, I was delivered to Miss May’s doorstep. The man who had paid a handsome fee to make me his wife was the only person in the world that I ever learned to fear. It was when he and I first locked eyes that I knew I was in for a worse hell than I could imagine. I never expected the cruelty that accompanied it. But rage can do something to a heart that once was gentle. It can do something to someone who was once quiet and full of hope. It can slowly turn a caged, once-frightened animal into a feral one. It did because I wasn’t afraid of him anymore, I was determined. And I was ready to break free. My Review Warning: This book is dark. However, if you have read Yolonda, this is no surprise.  Orla goes through a lot being Kase's wife. It is not always easy to read about the trauma that Orla experiences, despite everything she goes...

Book Review: One Hundred Saints

He was from the wrong side of the bayou. A place where voodoo was revered and fallen angels whispered. I didn’t care. I loved him from the first time we played together, and I love him still. I haven’t seen him in so long. I went back to New Orleans when I could. I never stopped thinking about him. My bayou boy with the heavy Cajun accent. I just didn’t know that the happy little boy had turned into such a different man. I didn’t know that he had been looking for me too. I didn’t know a lot of things. But finding out was much worse than staying in the dark. My Review This is a very, quick read. The dark and spooky vibe of New Orleans is the perfect setting for this story.  Emily and Grimm come from two different walks of life. Emily is from a rich family. Yet, she never treated Grimm like he was beneath her. That they why they formed a good friendship. The draw that Emily felt to seek out Grimm again as an adult is strong. When Grimm sees Emily again you can tell that he fel...

Book Review: Between Hope & Tragedy

A dark tale of forbidden love and the consequences that follow. It all started with one mistake. But that’s what life is, isn’t it? One mistake after the other, hoping that one day, things will finally go right for a change. I left when I got the chance. I thought it would make everything okay. But sometimes, things go awry and we all have to go back to the places that hurt us the most. I should have expected it. After all, everything can’t be perfect forever. Age gapStudent/teacherHe falls firstSecond chance My Review Zaydee and Garrett's relationship may have started out as taboo, but it ran so much deeper than just physical. It was very much emotional. I felt everything that Zaydee and Garrett were feeling with the sorrow, love, rage, and tears.  This story shows the raw look into what happens after a moment of passion. Everything does not just look pretty through rose-colored glasses. It is a bumpy road that affects all involved.  OMG, Yolonda what did you do to me....
