Book Review: Masked Crush

 

Stacy Fredricks went away to college hoping to forget the one guy who had a choke hold on her heart all throughout high school—Austin Lang. She’d been sure he secretly loved her, but his constant stoicism never gave anything away. Now four years later, Stacy finds herself back home while completing an internship.

And Austin is still on her mind.

The fantasy of him confessing his undying love lives rent-free in her mind as does his handsome, yet brooding face. Stacy pretends to be over him, but her best friend sees right through the facade. She coaxes Stacy into coming to the annual Halloween party, promising her another chance to win Austin’s heart.

Stacy reluctantly attends, but when Austin doesn’t recognize her in her costume, Stacy has to make a choice to tell the truth or to pretend to be someone she isn’t. She never drew in Austin by being herself in high school, so lying might be the answer now. A charade is hard to keep up, though, especially when it means lying to someone you love.

My Review

Stacy thought she outgrew her high school crush on Austin, but she was wrong. Her friend, Brenda encourages Stacy to tell Austin how she feels. She gets her ready for the Halloween party. Austin and Stacy do hook up but the next morning, Stacy runs off.

Stacy and Austin shirting around their feelings was a bit frustrating. Yet, at the same time it is what I picture two introverts acting like when they like each other but are too afraid to make the first move. I know that when I get anxious or in larger crowds that I become more awkward. Luckily by the end of the story, these two were able to admit their feelings for each other. 

Masked Crush is a quick read. You will become invested in Austin and Stacy. A fun next addition in this series.
