The Man in the Crooked Hat

Image
One cryptic clue leads a desperate man into a labyrinthine puzzle of murder in the electrifying new novel from national bestselling author Harry Dolan. There's a killer, and he wears a crooked hat. Private investigator Jack Pellum has spent two years searching for the man who he believes murdered his wife--a man he last saw wearing a peacoat and a fedora. Months of posting fliers and combing through crime records yield no leads. Then a local writer commits suicide, and he leaves a bewildering message that may be the first breadcrumb in a winding trail of unsolved murders . . . Michael Underhill is a philosophical man preoccupied by what-ifs and could-have-beens, but his life is finally coming together. He has a sweet and beautiful girlfriend, and together they're building their future home. Nothing will go wrong, not if Underhill has anything to say about it. The problem is, Underhill has a dark and secret past, and it's coming back to haunt him. My Review I en

Killer Holiday by Amy Korman on Tour October 23 - November 30, 2017 Synopsis: Kristin Clark and her offbeat crew of Bryn Mawr socialites are ready for a fun and festive winter holiday—one that involves sipping martinis by a crackling yule log, hot guys beneath the mistletoe, and Gucci under the Christmas tree. Eula Morris is also back in town for the holidays, more bossy and boastful than ever after winning a mega-jackpot in the lottery. Rafe Rebellius and the Clash of the Genres

Image
Fourteen-year-old Rafe Rabellius really gets into books. Like, literally. And sometimes he can't get out. After being dragged cross-country by his research scientists parents all his life—Greenfort High will be his seventh school when Rafe starts in the fall—there's hope. If Rafe will agree to share his new home with a so-called extended family he's never even heard of (what kind of name is Genrés anyway?), they'll stay put for four whole years. Cool, right? Is a wooden staff shoved under your throat by a short, fully robed and hooded man with caterpillar eyebrows named Whic the Druid Warrior cool? Is it cool to find yourself suddenly in a stagecoach under attack by pseudo-Indians? What about unwittingly rescuing a robot princess from the 29th century who has auto-growing hair with LED glowing tips? Is that cool? Well, yeah. Rafe thinks that's pretty cool. But he's afraid he's not. Struggling to define himself, Rafe is drawn into an urgent battle to save h

Jersey Diner

Image
In 1985, twenty year old Lauren has a dead end job as a waitress at the Oaklyn Diner. Alone and with no direction, Lauren becomes ecstatic when the diner is chosen to be the focal point of an upcoming movie, Jersey Diner , starring Jonathan Pearce. Scouted to be a part of the local crew, Lauren builds a relationship with Jonathan Pearce. When filming ends she moves to California to start a new life with Jonathan. In need of cash, she joins her friend Lena Harlow to run Lena’s food truck and catering business when Lauren discovers that all that she thought was real and true are in question. My Review I have mixed feelings about this book. On one hand it was charming but on the other hand it could have been so much more. What I mean by this is that the characters were not appealing or likable. In fact, I felt bad for Mr. and Mrs. P., the owners of the diner. They were such a sweet couple and the movie crew did not have respect. Than there is Lauren. She seemed so smart but her

Project XX

Image
Girls just wanna have guns. Males are almost always the perpetrators of mass shootings. But females are fully capable of shocking acts of violence and, in the US, military-style weapons are as easy to access as a new hairstyle. Like Fight Club for girls, Project XX is a biting satire of the American obsession with violent destruction in the midst of rampant materialism. The darkly humorous story of girls on a rampage will grip you by the throat and not let go until you gasp for breath on the last page. My Review In order for a book to work you have to like the character. Well, it does help anyways. In this case, I not only did not like the main character but found her very bitter and annoying. I kept waiting for the story to start. If this book was about an angry teenager, who did not have a good relationship with her mom, than, this book fits. Yet, I am left wondering where is this turning point when the story gets to the destruction that girls/women can be mass killers as

Existence is dreary hell for Dr. Beau Walker. Coerced into joining a U.S./Russian scientific team, Beau searches for the cause of the disasters. Beginning with a treacherous, life-threatening exploration of the anomalous crater, where scientific laws don't seem to apply, he's thrown into a world of unimaginably advanced biotechnology, biowarfare, genetics, paranormal research, and military intrigue.
