Em's Awful Good Fortune

Image
Part dysfunctional marriage, part global romp, this is not your typical expat story.  Em’s Awful Good Fortune  is a deeply personal, marriage-coming-apart-at-the-seams look at the struggle between a woman’s desire for partnership and her need for identity. Fueled by twin demons, love and rage, Em stomps her way around the world, coming to terms with the fantasy of having it all: husband, kids, and a career. Em is not just married; it’s more like being handcuffed to her husband’s international career. Her life reads like a fantasy, bouncing between Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Seoul. But the good fortune is all her husband’s; Em is just the tag-along wife. Marcie Maxfield’s compelling, non-linear story explores the expatriate lifestyle through the lens of a crumbling marriage, while at the same time tracing the lasting impact of sexual assault and post-traumatic stress disorder. Em’s journey exposes the dark corners of this seemingly privileged world: loneliness, depressio

Bad boy rocker Mick Davies has been caught with his pants down far too many times. His bandmates are feeling the strain from their lead singer’s antics, leaving their label no choice but to send in a new tour manager in the hopes of getting control over the spiraling situation. But Mick has other ideas. What better way to show his wild ways can’t be tamed than by seducing the manager’s sister-in-law? A charming smile, the heart of gold routine, and she would easily become Mick’s latest conquest. Or so he thought... Candice Bryan has had it with musicians. Her lead guitarist ex-boyfriend, Felix, made sure of that. She fell for his sweet and sincere act and had her heart shattered into a million pieces. Then she met Mick. His pick-up lines are played out. His seductive swagger is a joke. Yet it’s the vulnerability he shows in caring for his sister that melts Candice’s icy facade. Where the Stork Flies

A Pennsylvania librarian, a 19th century Polish peasant and a wisecracking medieval queen join forces on a mission from the Black Madonna of Czestochowa only one of them understands. What could possibly go wrong? My Review The opening scene with the mystery surrounding Regina had my attention. I was very intrigued like Kat to learn more about Regina. When I learned her story; I instantly felt a close connection with her.  As I was reading, I was instantly transported into the story and it was as if I could see everyone and everything. When the ladies traveled to Poland, I travelled with them. Not to leave anyone out as there is also one other person that I want to mention and that is Aniela. She is like the glue to helped to bind Kat and Regina.  Because I was transported into this story it flew by in a bit of a blur. In a good way. Saying that I read it so fast as I could not stop reading. I would recommend this book to other readers. It has a bit of a time travel element that I enj

I Miss School + Giveaway

Join us for this tour from July 6 to July 26, 2021! Book Details: Book Title :  I Miss School by Ryan Reaves Category :  Children's Non-Fiction (Ages 3-7) ,  24 pages Genre :  Children's Picture Book Publisher :  Dawn Reaves Release date:    Feb 2021 Content Rating :  G for everyone. Book Description: “I Miss School” is written by a child, for a child. In this heartwarming and honest story, kids will understand that their feelings about the pandemic are normal and it is perfectly acceptable to feel a range of emotions related to not going to in-person school. The book instills hope for kids that brighter days are ahead. My Review This is a cute book. It is simple and a quick read. The fact that a six year old wrote this book is very amazing. To this fact, the book does read like a young author wrote it. The reason I say this is because the book is more like just thoughts and feelings from a child versus a "true story". Yet, this book does show how much

One Last Stop

For cynical twenty-three-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don’t exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone. She can’t imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that. And there’s certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures. But then, there’s this gorgeous girl on the train. Jane. Dazzling, charming, mysterious, impossible Jane. Jane with her rough edges and swoopy hair and soft smile, showing up in a leather jacket to save August’s day when she needed it most. August’s subway crush becomes the best part of her day, but pretty soon, she discovers there’s one big problem: Jane doesn’t just look like an old school punk rocker. She’s literally displaced in time from the 1970s, and August is going to have to use everything she tried

The occupation she’s waited for. An undeniable attraction. One risk they shouldn’t take. Levelheaded photographer Becca knows what she wants. Her dream country home away from it all. But she lands the career of her dreams, capturing her boss behind the camera lens and falls hard for him. Famous model Grant Bennett’s a billionaire. He’s confident, toned and gorgeous. And completely off limits. But it’s his green piercing eyes that captivate her and she can’t resist. Putting her goals in jeopardy when he’s fallen for her, too. Becca never expected to be attracted to Mr. Bennett. She needs to withstand the hold he has over her. Their careers depend on it. But one night alone with him could change it all. Can she capture Mr. Grant Bennett’s heart? My Review This is a quick read. The first half is where the sex and steaminess plays out. The latter half is more on the sweeter side. Despite, the hot chemistry between Grant and Becca I have to admit that in in the beginning I was not feeling

Book Feature: Sandwiched

Laurie James spent most of her life wondering what it means to belong; loneliness dictated the choices she made. She rarely shared this secret with others, however; it was always hidden behind a carefree and can-do attitude. When she’s in her mid-forties, Laurie’s mother has a heart attack and her husband’s lawyer delivers some shocking news.  She suddenly finds herself sandwiched between caring for her parents, managing unruly caregivers, raising four teenage daughters, and trying to understand the choices of the husband she thought she knew. Laurie’s story is about one woman’s struggle to “do it all” while facing the reality that the “ideal life” and “perfect family” she believed could save her was slowly crumbling beneath her. Laurie tries everything to keep her family together―seeks therapy, practices yoga, rediscovers nature, develops strong female friends, and begins writing―but as she explores the layers of her life and heals her past, she realizes that she’s the only one who

Lyssa Strata: A COMEDY FOR THE FRUSTRATED

Image
Packed with callbacks to the Greek myth on which it’s based, this book will make for a satisfying read for any woman who’s mad at hell at the patriarchy and isn’t going to take it anymore, but also wants a laugh a minute along the way… By Martti Nelson Title : LYSSA STRATA: A COMEDY FOR THE FRUSTRATED Author : Martti Nelson Publisher : Humorist Books Pages : 205 Genre : Women’s Fiction / Commercial Fiction / Humorous Fiction BOOK BLURB: She’s mad as hell, and she’s not gonna give it up anymore. Librarian Lyssa Strata has long begged the Town Council of Athena, Massachusetts, to repeal its disgusting old misogynist and racist laws. But the Council, an all-male entity for 400 years, has blown her off as a redheaded spinster—who, according to a 1673 law, should legally be run out of town at the end of a musket upon a poor fiscal year. So Lyssa seeks to invade the male bastion as the first woman ever on the Council. The men in charge treat her candidacy as a hilarious joke, which does no
