Book Review: Shadow

“Do it. Always do it. Do it enthusiastically, or do it scared, but never show anyone here your fear. The island feeds off it.”

The Darlings never thought they would ever return to Neverland. It was a place that only lived in their nightmares and should remain that way.

Having been brought back against their wishes, they find the island populated with pirates and Fae, but no sign of Peter Pan. Learning the Fae have had free reign of the island for years, they discover their nefarious deeds have leeched over to London and must be stopped at all costs.

The Darlings partner with local pirates and the Natives, only to have the Fae kidnap one of their own. To rescue them, the trio must investigate deeper into the origins of Neverland, and their own histories on the island, before they all reach an untimely fate.

But the further the team delves into the legends and secrets of the island, the more dangerous it becomes, which leads them back to the question...

What happened to Peter Pan?

My Review

Neverland is not the same. I have read many variations of Peter Pan, but this one is unique. I like how it featured the different Darling children and not just Wendy or Jane.

This book is told through the different Darling's POVs. It is broken out as follows: Wendy, Jon & Lily, Michael & Asher, and Jane & James. This did allow me to get close to each of the characters. While the story has the many POVs, it is easy to follow along. In addition, that each POV does lead to the overall storyline.

As the story progresses, the pacing picks up. By the end you are invested in the story. This is a good thing with that cliffhanger ending!
