Book Review: Saving the Sacrifice

“I named you Karolina because you were born during a hurricane. You’re a storm, destructive to yourself and others, an unnatural abomination, the embodiment of great sin.

In a post-apocalyptic world where one-third of the remaining population is brainwashed with dangerous cultish beliefs, a naive girl is locked away from the world in a cellar through her whole childhood until she's old enough to be sacrificed to the gods to absolve her mother of a great sin.Just before the time of her sacrifice, an older man offered her a chance at freedom. She'd been told that if she ever tried to escape, the gods would strike her down, but what if they didn't? Taking his hand and taking a daring chance, Kari and her savior run off into the night, but what if she was never meant to be free?

Karolina first began on Amazon's Kindle Vella platform and will be released longform volumes and seasons. Check the series page for publication dates!

My Review

I was drawn to this novella. It actually read more like a full-length book. There is a cliffhanger ending. I am already invested in Kari and Osric that I look forward to reading Volume Two.

In the beginning I was not sure where this story was going but I was very intrigued. Yet as the story slowly unfolded, I because really invested in it. I already had become emotionally attached to Kari but then when Osric came along, he was just what this story needed.

Two wounded souls. One looking for redemption and the other learning to live.
