Where Hope Begins
Sometimes we’re allowed to glimpse the beauty within the brokenness . . .
Savannah Barrington has always found solace at her parents’ lake house in the Berkshires, and it’s the place that she runs to when her husband of over twenty years leaves her. Though her world is shaken, and the future uncertain, she finds hope through an old woman’s wisdom, a little girl’s laughter, and a man who’s willing to risk his own heart to prove to Savannah that she is worthy of love.
But soon Savannah is given a challenge she can’t run away from: Forgiving the unforgivable. Amidst the ancient gardens and musty bookstores of the small town she’s sought refuge in, she must reconcile with the grief that haunts her, the God pursuing her, and the wounds of the past that might be healed after all.
Where Hope Begins is the story of grace in the midst of brokenness, pointing us to the miracles that await when we look beyond our own expectations.
My Review
When I first started reading this book, I was not sure if I was going to enjoy it. I was just not feeling the story or the characters. Yet, this feeling did not last too long. There was just a slow start to the story. However, it picked up after a few chapters and I found myself really enjoying this book a lot as well as all of the characters.
Savannah grew stronger as the story progressed. She did stand her ground with her estranged husband. Although, the others that helped to really make this story were Maysie and her father, Brock, and his Aunt Clarice. Maysie is one of those children that her presence just makes you smile. Brock did not have a in your face personality. The sparks that blossomed between him and Savannah were slow and sweet. Yet, when I learned why Brock was not so fast to take things quickly, I understood. Catherine West writes a lovely story filled with hope, second chances, and friendship in Where Hope Begins.
