Book Review: Tethered North
Tropes:
Dystopian style, post war setting Arranged marriage Multiple POVs Forced proximity Found family 'Touch her and die'
War destroyed the world, leaving death and chaos in its wake.
In the aftermath, England was split into four regions—each granted absolute autonomy to rule as they saw fit.
Emilia is in the North.
Given a State-mandated job and forced into an arranged marriage, her happy memories of pre-war life are long gone, replaced by gruelling workdays, punishments in The Cell, and the gut-wrenching fear of the Enforcers who patrol the streets.
In a world where every choice has been made for her, developing feelings for her stubborn husband was never part of the plan.
The State controls her world—oppressive and seemingly unbreakable.
But nothing is truly indestructible.
Determined to bring the State down, even if defiance leads to certain death, will falling for Zachary Hastings be her greatest weakness, or her only chance at freedom?
My Review
Emilia knew it was only a matter of time before she had to face reality that she would be paired up with someone and be married. Zac does not like the idea anymore then, Emilia does. These two bicker with each other. Yet I can't blame either one of them. Who won't react with destain in finding themselves in an arranged marriage/forced proximity situation. "His laugh is low and husky." I liked this book. It was easy to get into right away with the storyline. I found the pacing to move at a good one. It kept my interest the whole time. Zac and Emilia are two strong willed individuals. They may not have known it yet or recognized it early on but these two did care for one another. For example, Zac comes home from work to find Emilia eating mush that is rice. He cooks her proper food. A very enjoyable read.
