Book Review: Something Like Home
I’ve spent my life earning my place in rooms built to keep me out. Doors of opportunity slam shut, and I can only hold out hope for so long. When I'm finally seen for my abilities, and not my looks, I fall when I should run. The closer I get, the harder it becomes to tell where safety ends, and desire begins. I know better than to confuse power with care. I know better than to want what could cost me everything. He watches without crowding, protects without asking permission, and he never underestimates me. When the threats stop being theoretical, and the walls close in, I realize the most dangerous thing isn’t being seen---It’s wanting to stay. Some places don't just feel safe, they feel like something like home.
My Review
As a STEM fan and someone who had a degree in Electronic Engineering, I liked that Evie is intelligent and into this field. Jennifer is a good friend. It would figure that she helped facilitate Evie having an interview with Elijah. He is a good guy.
I like how he respected Evie's boundaries. The pacing of Evie and Elijah's relationship was a nice, steady one. Elijah cared for Evie. So that when they did become intimate, the feelings felt "raw" but "genuine" as well.
Emily pens a traumatic but beautiful story.
This is a dark romance with heavy triggers. Reader's discretion is highly advised
