Book Review: Hateful Secrets

She wants to escape her fate. But he'll never let her go.

Lucie

All my life, I've lived for others. For the family, as my father drilled into me since I was a kid. For my cousin, our don, who called on me to marry a man I didn't love to serve the Ventura name.
Now, freshly divorced at twenty, I escape to Edinburgh, determined to leave the mafia behind, and focus on myself.
But it seems that danger follows me everywhere I go. I never see his face, but I know he's here, waiting for me in the shadows. And my treacherous heart can't stop longing for the dark desires he ignites inside me.

Toma

Lucie Ventura is a beautiful liar, pretending to be wholesome and sweet. Behind the smiles and the laughter, a beast yearns for a monster to devour her whole.
Ever since I met her while we rescued her cousin, I haven't been able to get her out of my head. She's burrowed deep into my psyche, and I never want her out.
She says she's done with mafia men. Too bad, I'm not done with her.
And I'll do anything to make her mine. Including protecting her from the horrors of my past.

My Review

Lucie is a fierce FMC. I love that she was bold enough to say I am out. She did not want to stay under the protection of her father and make on her own. Love that her father respected this and allowed her to get out.

I did feel that "stalkerish" vibe that Toma was projecting. Yet, as the same time, Toma did it was love for Lucie. Toma and Lucie's love was not about the spice but the emotional connection they shared. I liked seeing these two interact with each other.

"I didn't deserve you. But I loved you all the same."

This is a really good book. I like that is on the lighter side of Mafia romances. A nice, refreshing change from the darker Mafia romances. What made this book so good is the connection I shared with Toma and Lucie. Because I became invested in their story, I felt that emotional bond stronger. Thus, I found myself reading this book quickly as the pacing was a nice steady one. Readers of mafia romances will want to check out this book.

Author's Hateful Secrets can be read as a stand-alone. For full enjoyment, it is recommended to read Hateful Vows first. Hateful Secrets is a stalker mafia romance on the light side of the dark romance spectrum, featuring a strong FMC and a golden retriever of a stalker who would do anything for his woman. Guaranteed HEA.
