Book Review: Riding the Pine

Some crushes never fade—they just burn deeper.

Scott

Hockey was my ticket out—my one-way pass to a better life. I've been laser-focused: graduate, get drafted, and build a career that proves I'm more than just another farm kid with big dreams. Athena de la Peña was always the one mesmerizing distraction I couldn't afford. She’s my best friends’ older sister, and way out of my league.

But when she's hurt and vulnerable, my carefully planned future becomes secondary. Everything I've worked for means nothing compared to protecting her. She deserves someone who'll fight for her, stay for her, even if she doesn’t think she needs it.

Athena

Scott Raine was always there—my brothers' best friend, the guy who saw me when no one else did. After my assault, I'm broken, raw, and searching for something solid. Suddenly, he's my rock. The boy who watched me from afar is now the man holding me together, fighting my battles, and showing me what real love looks like.

And I have no idea what to do with that.

My Review
After reading this book, I love the de la Peña family even more so than I ever did. Not that I was not already in love with them before. They are so close knit and when it really counts, they have each other's backs.

I absolutely love the nicknames that Athena and Scott call each other. Athena is Bright Eyes and Scott is Gizmo.

As if I was not already into Scott and the fact that he already was thinking about marrying Athena before they were an item. This is very adorable by the way. There was that one scene where he is at a party and wearing "grey sweatpants". Um, this should always be a required clothing item in guy's wardrobe.

"I guess part of me hoped that someday I'd be your owl. And that you'd be my Athena."

Athena being little spoon and Scott as big spoon is the best thing either. I can't get enough of these two. OMG. The first time that these two hooked up and Scott reverted back to his sixteen-year-old self. It was funny and adorable.

"I love you with my whole heart."

I "ship" this book so hard. Lasairiona out did herself with this book. I loved every moment of it.
