Book Review: Lush

Laurene King had it beauty, wealth, and a sexy secret affair with Reese Ashbourne— the brooding heir of her family’s sworn enemy.

But one reckless night shattered everything.

Tragedy struck. Laurene disappeared. And Reese was left with betrayal, unanswered questions, and scars he’ll never forget.

Now, Laurene is back, forced to return to the life she fled, but her homecoming comes with a cruel twist. Their families, teetering on the edge of ruin, have resurrected an old deal to save an Ashbourne and a King must marry—or lose everything.

Only this time, Reese is the groom. Not his brother.

Haunted by the past, Reese craves revenge as much as he still craves her. Trapped in a forced proximity neither can escape, their chemistry ignites—and so do their secrets.

But someone knows the truth about that night. The lies that tore them apart are unraveling, and the shadowy danger lurking in their luxurious world could destroy them both.

With their second chance at love and their families’ legacies hanging by a thread, Laurene and Reese must bury the past or watch everything crumble to ashes.

The clock is ticking, and some truths are better left buried...
Lush is a steamy, high-stakes arranged marriage romance packed with angst, enemies to lovers to enemies, buried secrets, millionaire glamour, danger at every turn, and a heroine who plays dirty. Perfect for readers of Dynasty, 80s soap opera and mystery. This novel contains cursing and sex scenes, and intended for audiences 18 years and older.

My Review

Laurene and Reese's relationship is full of twists and turns. They may have been in love back in the day but that was before the accident and time. Years have pasted and these two are different people.

While Laurene and Reese were both used as pawns, I felt like Laurene had it a bit worse. She had to fight harder being a woman. Yet, she was up for the task. Evil parents. That is what both Reese and Laurene had to deal with.

I would call this book a romantic, suspense/thriller. Which I love a good romantic suspense/thriller. What this means is that the story features mystery mixed with romance. There is a lot of backstabbing/blackmail to be found in this story. It is ok to dislike characters as they are slippery characters.

The last third of the story is where the pacing really picked up. I felt for Reese and Laurene. They had to overcome a lot of obstacles for their love.
