Book Review: Beneath the Scars
I can read the dead like a story.
The broken bones, the torn skin—they whisper their secrets to me.
But the living? They’re much harder to decipher.
Especially him.
Agent Byron Scott.
All sharp edges and relentless focus, he sees through my scars and the walls I’ve built to protect myself.
I didn’t mean to let him in.
Didn’t mean to fall for the way he looks at me, like I’m more than my haunted past.
I should shut him out while I still can.
Because falling for Byron Scott isn’t safe.
Not when the serial killer he’s hunting is leaving bodies in their wake.
Not when a stalker is following my every move, watching from the shadows.
Byron says he’ll protect me.
But with danger closing in from every side, I’m not sure who I need saving from more—my enemies or the man who’s tearing down my defenses piece by piece.
My Review
I love a good serial killer read, especially when it features two good main characters. Which I liked both Lily and Byron. They did not get off on the right footing with each other in the beginning. Although as the story progressed, they came to a mutual understanding of one another.
I was feeling the romantic chemistry between them. It was nice to see Lily let loose and form a connection with Byron. When she opened up about her past that was an emotional moment, but I felt like I got to know her better from her sharing.
Regarding the serial killer. I honestly had no clue who it was and that is a good thing. There were not too many details shared about the killer and Byron could not shed much insight into the killer. I believe this was to help keep the identity a secret as long as can be in the storyline. I enjoyed this book a lot and will be checking out more books by this author.
