Book Review: Baby Widow

Baby Widow Makes a Home in Murder House

The media can say what they want about Chloe Stark, daughter of the infamous serial killer, the Black Widow. It won’t change the fact that she has three dead stepdads and not a care in the world.

Carrying on her mother’s legacy is causing bigger problems than tabloid drama. The local teacher who just surfaced from the bottom of the lake, for example. And the family man she just turned into mountain lion lunch.

And her biggest problem of all is that she’s in love with the man who put her mother in prison, and he’s in love with the idea of her in a jail cell.

Detective Colin Mills knows the Black Widow’s daughter isn’t as innocent as she pretends, that she might have had a hand in the grisly murders her mother committed. But the more time he spends on his chaotic hunt to find evidence that will put Chloe away, the further his obsession drives him over the thin line between truth and temptation and into the tangles of her web—and he’s far from the only one.

When everything he thought he knew starts to slip away from him, Colin has to decide what’s more important: the rules he thinks he believes in, or the woman who breaks every one of them.

My Review

Thanks to Buther and Blackbird, serial killer romances are in greater demand. I have always been a fan of this trope and thus can't get enough of all the new books. This book reminded me of one of my favorite cop/killer romantic couple...Detective Archie Sheridan and Gretchen Lowell created by author Chelsea Cain.

"Colin Mills is no regular man obsessed. He's obsessed with me, which I kind of love him for."

Chloe is a spitfire. Yet, I would not expect anything less from her and who her mother was. The way that she teased and pushed Colin's buttons is hilarious.

"She's like a princess. An evil princess with a murder complex."

What started as admiration, quickly turned into obsession from Colin. Everyone loves Chloe. Her and Colin's mother becoming fast friends after meeting is awesome. Well not everyone loves Chloe, but her victims don't count.

I love that Sydney stroked a great balance between the storyline and the romantic aspect. This book is a "killer" of a must read!
