Book Review: Tether
At nineteen years old, surviving each day is the only thing I’ve become accustomed to. After losing my mother in a car accident, and spending my teenage years in the ruthless foster system–I’ve become too familiar with the cruelty and loneliness this world has to offer.
My life was hanging by a fraying thread, and I was about to lose everything I had worked so hard to attain. I was hopeless and defeated by the hand I had been dealt.
That is, until a letter arrived from my unfamiliar late grandfather's estate, deeming me the sole heir of his grand fortune, including Gravenhurst Manor and Hollowcrest Academy.
With nothing left to lose, I accept my fate and make my way to Hollowcrest–a town which thrives on power, legacy and secrets. Where shadows lurk around every corner, and nothing is quite what it seems.
A charming son of a founding family captures my attention. His charisma and magnetism call to me, but I can’t stop my heart from being drawn to another–the brooding groundskeeper of my new place of residence, who has a wicked grin and an even sharper tongue.
Caught in a whirlwind of desire, hatred and passion, I must follow my heart's desires, even if that means uncovering much more than I’ve bargained for.
Welcome to Hollowcrest, where fates are tethered by secrets, and love knows no bounds.
My Review
This is the second book I have read by the author and I loved this book. Cadence has fast become a new favorite author of mine. I absolutely was instantly sucked into the story.
Verena aka Ren is a tough, strong woman. When you have to fight for your place in the world and then thrust into a powerful one that could possibly be taken away at a moment's notice, you tend to have barriers up. Ren learns that she does have some new friends, Mauve and Archie. Loxen is a friend too. Although can I just say that half the time I was frustrated by him and the way that he would be stand offish with Ren. The other half of the time, I was obsessed with him.
"My heart has always been yours, Loxen."
Every time that Loxen called Ren "Little Crow", my heart did a little jump. I loved this nickname that he gave to her. This book is a must read. Let me convince you with "gothic" and "secret society".
