Book Review: The Prince's Raven

She'll kneel for him while she brings his kingdom to its knees.

A slave bent on revenge...

The daughter of a traitor, god-touched priestess Raven craves vengeance for the death of her family at the hands of the emperor. Banished to a broken hellscape, she has no chance to strike back - until the emperor's lethal son rides into her realm chasing rumors of dragons reborn.

A sadistic prince...

Youngest son Caelan is intent on proving his worth. When his investigation of the birthplace of dragons leaves him with an enemy priestess in his chains, he knows he should kill her. Instead, he takes her home to serve as his personal slave and trophy.

And the games of power that define the throne...

He wants her submission. She wants to watch him burn. But neither is prepared for the blistering desire that could set ablaze an already-fractured kingdom.

House of the Dragon meets Haunting Adeline in this lush tale filled with ruthless, morally gray royals, magic, intrigue, banter, and spice. It’s the first in a series and ends on a cliff. This book contains violence and dark elements; more details can be found on kaymcclayne.com.

Perfect for fans of chonky, spicy epics like The Book of Azrael, Kushiel’s Dart, and Gild.

My Review

I will admit in the beginning, I struggled a bit to engage with the characters. I had no problems with the world that author, Kay built. It is for the world building that I really enjoyed this book. Luckily, my struggle only lasted a few chapters and then I found myself slowly attaching to the characters.

Raven is a strong FMC. There is nothing better than a strong FMC. Where the guys are concerned, I instantly liked Tanead before Prince Caelan. It was Tanead's snarky attitude that drew me to him right away.

The slow burn romance between Caelan and Raven is just what this story needed. As a romantasy, the story comes first and then the romance. Kay strikes a nice balance of adding just the right amounts of romances to enhance the story.
