What My Best Friend Did

Alice Johnston is a free lance photographer. Alice receives the change of a lifetime…an all expenses paid trip to LA. Alice ’s task is to photograph children’s television host Gretchen Bartholomew turned aspiring model. At first Alice wants to hate Gretchen but once she gets to know her, she finds herself with a new friend. Gretchen starts to slowly corrupt sweet Alice into becoming more outgoing. Alice starts noticing slight changes in Gretchen. When Alice realizes what Gretchen is really all about it is too late, she is in too deep.

What My Best Friend Did is a psychological roller coaster of emotions. Gretchen is like a light switch. One moment she is happy and the next moment she coming after you ninety miles a minute. Alice for me was a bit dull and did not make much of an impression on me. In fact most of the characters except for Gretchen were uninteresting, which quickly turned me off with this book.

In addition, the transition between the storylines between past and present was not as smooth as I would have liked it to be. The book started out with the present and then switched to the past and the whole book kept switching back and forth every few chapters. At first when this happened I didn’t realize this took place and was a little confused and had to go back and re-read the last page or few sentences. Overall, What My Best Friend Did may want to remain a mystery.
