It's time to be Immortal.
I am proud to help host Joy Nash's 50 Books in 50 Days, Book Giveaway. Joy is giving away 50 autographed copies of her latest book Immortals: The Crossing at 50 different locations. I received an ARC copy of this book and enjoyed it. You can read my review below.
Manannan Mac Lir is the Prince of Annwyn as well as Guardian of Celtic Magical Creatures for the human world. It makes perfect sense to have a half sidhe be guardian. While Mac is visiting his friends Kalen and his wife Christine and their daughter Elspeth, he learns that someone is going around raiding faerie villages of their life essence. Mac goes to investigate who could be doing this. When he arrives at one of the villages he captures the person responsible. Her name is Artemis Black and she is a witch. Tomorrow is Samhain, the changing of the seasons and Artemis needs all the life essence she can get before Samhain takes place. Artemis is brought before Mac’s mother and the rest of the counsel and sentenced to exile. Mac knows he should be pleasure with the sentence Artemis received but instead he feels something for Artemis
other then hatred. Mac will travel to heaven or hell to bring Artemis back where she belongs.
I devoured Immortal: The Crossing and enjoyed every morsel of it. It had just the right amount of everything. Though I have to admit that Immortal: The Crossing is the first book I have read in the Immortal series. Now after stating that fact, I am excited to say that I was very pleased with Immortal: The Crossing. Ms. Nash writing style made it so effortless to jump right into this book that I never felt like I was missing anything by not reading all of the other books in the series. Immortal: The Crossing can be read as a stand-alone book. Do be warned though that after reading this book you will find yourself like I did wanting to go back and read all of the other books in the Immortal series. I am proud to say I am now a big fan of Joy Nash.

My favorite fantasy book? Wow, I would have to say the author was Mercedes Lackey, her Valdemar series. Favorite characters, well it's a tie between Vanyel, Tamra, and Firesong. Despite all that Vanyel went through he managed to continue on, helping people. Tamra, well she just was so cool. Firesong, the peacock always made me laugh. I loved being possessed by that series.

In children's fantasy, I love James and the Giant Peach, and really anything by Raold Dahl, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (aka Willie Wonka), and Matilda. All three of those were made into great movies.
And of course, Harry Potter. No question there. It's not often that I buy TWO copies of a book on its release day just so the five people in my family don't rip apart one book! (We still fought over the two we had!)
The Golden Compass trilogy was fascinating, with all the alternate versions of earth. The traditional fantasy good/evil struggle was very conflicted in those books -- every character had an agenda and the people who you thought were on the good side would then turn around and do bad things. Then the people you thought were bad would sometimes do things that were good. TGC was billed as a children's book and movie, but I think that was a big mistake. Even though the main character was a young girl, the book was definitely one of complex adult themes that could be very confusing to children.
And let's not forget Dante's Inferno, a dark medieval fantasy that was the source of much inspiration while I wrote Immortals: The Crossing!

My favorite fantasy character!?? How can you pick one out of so many great ones? There's Tegan from Lara Adrian's series. Rachel Morgan of Kim Harrison's series. Kitella of Marjorie M Liu's series. Etc. I'd sooner pick a star from the heavens then actually pick a favorite character out of so many hundreds of favorites.
