Book Review: The Cruelest Kind of Hate

Hockey’s golden boy, Gage Arlington, is a world-renowned goalie and lovable jerk who expects his second season playing on the Riverside Reapers to go smoothly. Until his luck changes one game and he sustains an almost-career-ending injury. Now facing three months of recovery time, his sole focus is to get back on the ice. With a (supposedly) foolproof plan, he enlists the help of a certain dance instructor to rehabilitate him, only to find out that she’s none other than the girl who hates his guts and t-boned his car to prove it.

Dance instructor, Calista Cadwell, has been strapped in a never-ending rollercoaster loop her whole life. And when her mother falls terminally ill, she’s left with no choice but to become her brother’s primary caretaker. With a bank account that needs some serious CPR and an insane schedule, her great-sister status seems to be on the verge of tanking. But all her fears come true when she discovers her brother’s being bullied by his hockey teammates. So, when an arrogant, hip-hindered hockey player comes begging for her help, she forms a plan of action.

My Review

I have been with Celeste since the beginning with book one. Instantly, I was hooked and since than I have grown close to all of the Riverside Reapers. So, it was great to see them featured in this book as much as they were.

While I really enjoyed the previous two books, I have to say that this is my favorite one so far. I was laughing and crying. Literally genuine tears. There are so many great lines in this book that if I highlighted, almost the whole book would be colored or tabbed. There were many times that I would stop reading to read out lines to my husband.

Calista is so feisty, and I love her. Her and Gage's first meet up is one to talk about. She sure showed Gage that nothing gets in her way including his car. Calista's little brother, Teague is adorable. Gage did a good job mentoring him. Calista and Gage brought the HEAT! If they had stepped onto the ice, they would have melted it. Looking for your next lose sleep because you can't and won't put down book, then you need to read, The Cruelest Kind of Hate by Celeste Briars.
