Book Review: Game Girl
Welcome to Retro Whimsy where the owners know just what you need.
Katie is looking to rekindle her love of video games after she was very publicly dumped by her gaming streamer boyfriend. Her cousin encourages her to return to the basics and get retro with a system from the local vintage store. Katie finds more than she expected when the Square system she purchases comes with a bootlegged dating simulator. Nathaniel is everything she likes in a man with none of the complications of being real.
Cursed by his girlfriend, Nathaniel has been trapped inside the video game for the last decade. Katie may be just what he needs to escape. But can he convince her he’s real, and really needs her help to escape?
My Review
As a gamer myself, I liked this short novella. I did have to laugh at the situation that Nathaniel found himself in being a gamer himself. It is very easy to neglect all reality when playing a game. I know I will sit down to play and then look at the clock, only to find that hours have gone by.
There was a nice lead up to the "Big Bang" moment between Katie and Nathaniel. Although, I got to say that that when it happened that was one steamy scene. Katie and Nathaniel scored the top score with their hook up. I will be going back and checking out the prior novellas in this series.
