Book Review: Run on Red

Image
A rural country road. No cell signal for miles. A terrifying game of cat-and-mouse. By the time Laura and Olivia notice the headlights tailing them through the hills, it’s too late. What seems, at first, like a case of road rage quickly unfolds into a heart-pounding chase—and a battle for survival. Who are the men in the truck? What do they want? And can Laura and Olivia outrun—and outsmart—them long enough to call for help, even if it means taking their chances in the hills on foot? As their situation grows more perilous, the girls realize that the real terror has only just begun. But flight won’t save them from their pursuers. If they’re going to make it home alive, they'll have to fight. My Review This is the second book I have read by this author, and I am quickly becoming a fan. I really liked the fast pacing of this book. Right from the beginning, the suspense level was high, and it just got higher as the story progressed.  Laura and Olivia are two strong FMCs. I reall...

Audiobook Review: Cut Her Strings

Raven was dead; at least, that's what the world thought. Now, she's not only been found alive but thrown into what is referred to as the world's most sadistic reality game show. There are two hundred and forty-nine other contestants, but only five will be announced as winners. The prize? Their lives. For Raven, losing isn't an option. She will win this game, even if it requires the help of several suspicious strangers and a man she shouldn't forgive. But sometimes, help comes with strings attached. Hunger Games meets Saw in this dark why choose. Raven will end up with multiple love interests. Please check the first page for TWs. These are morally grey men. Do not expect any heroes in this series. My Review Xenia Willacey is a new to me narrator. I really enjoyed listening to her voice all of the various cast of characters. She can do both Raven's voice as well as all the MMC's voices. I read the book, but it was like a new experience again with the audio v...

Find the $20 million in diamonds stolen from the Pakhan fifteen years ago, now in the possession of a kindergarten teacher named Chloe. Standard surveillance. But nothing about this assignment has been standard since I stumbled into Parent-Teacher night and got pulled into the orbit of a five-foot-nothing ray of sunshine. Chloe is nothing like I expected. She’s pure innocence. The light to my darkness. A good girl just waiting for someone like me to unravel that control she clings to. And completely incapable of hiding twenty million in stolen merchandise. But there’s some connection. A reason our rivals are suddenly hunting her. Now my mission has changed. Protect Chloe. And make her mine. Even if it ...

Boo Review: Bred by the Gargoyle

Image
Pippin’s true love is restoring beautiful art to its former glory—and exploring new and exciting experiences in life. That’s what lands her at DreamTogether, a breeding program for monsters who want families of their own. There, she meets a gargoyle who has always longed for a fledgling, and shows her the time of her life on the breeding bench. Having failed at traditional relationships, Silas scrimped and saved with his security guard salary to hire a surrogate. Though he’s entranced by the beautiful human who will carry his young, after successfully breeding her, he knows he’ll never see her again. So he fixates upon the new assistant museum curator, instead—and starts to fall for the cute woman with the delicate hands. But both of them are keeping secrets that may just upset this budding love story. My Review Talk about instant chemistry. That is what Silas and Pippin shared. I love that Silas was taking his time admiring Pippin before he claimed her. Absolutely loved that Sil...

Book Review: Beg For It

Image
Raised to be obedient. Sold to be submissive. Stolen to be free. My two long-lost brothers and an uncle that I never knew existed deconstruct the walls built around me that kept me tethered to my lifetime of abuse. Isolation used to feel like a punishment, but now, I’d beg for it. THIS IS A TABOO SPLATTERPUNK EROTICA WITH EXTREMELY HEAVY TRIGGERS AND BLOOD SIBLING INCEST. READER’S DISCRETION IS HIGHLY ADVISED. My Review Marissa was born into a very rough life. Even up to her demise, Marissa's mother still had a little fighting spirit left in her. I have never cheered louder for someone's death, then, I did Marissa's father. He was a horrible man and got what was coming to him.  I felt for Marissa and the new situation she had found herself in after her father. Yet she was fortunate that she is rescued by her two long lost brothers and uncle.  I did really enjoy this novella. It is a quick read. If you like dark stories that are unapologetic, then, you will like this one...

Book Review: Something Like Home

Image
I’ve spent my life earning my place in rooms built to keep me out. Doors of opportunity slam shut, and I can only hold out hope for so long. When I'm finally seen for my abilities, and not my looks, I fall when I should run. The closer I get, the harder it becomes to tell where safety ends, and desire begins. I know better than to confuse power with care. I know better than to want what could cost me everything. He watches without crowding, protects without asking permission, and he never underestimates me. When the threats stop being theoretical, and the walls close in, I realize the most dangerous thing isn’t being seen---It’s wanting to stay. Some places don't just feel safe, they feel like something like  home. My Review As a STEM fan and someone who had a degree in Electronic Engineering, I liked that Evie is intelligent and into this field. Jennifer is a good friend. It would figure that she helped facilitate Evie having an interview with Elijah. He is a good guy....

Book Review: Sap & Secrets

Image
A Surprise Baby Firefighter Romance from Amazon Bestselling Author Daphne Elliot Nine months ago, I had one perfect, reckless night with Jasper Lawrence, the tall, tattooed firefighter who made me feel fearless. I told myself it was a mistake I’d never repeat. Then he finds me at the Maple Festival… in labor with our surprise baby. The best part?  I had no idea I was pregnant. Now Jasper is  everywhere . The two of us stumble through new parenthood together. And he doesn’t just step up, he moves in. Almost. He pitches a tent in my backyard and sleeps outside so he’s never far away from us. He’s a shirtless, helpful menace who cooks, cleans, and cuddles our son. He makes me feel safe, seen, and wanted. And I hate how much I love it. Every time I shove him away, he shows back up, golden retriever energy and all, with coffee and pastries in tow, ready to carry the baby, the groceries, and occasionally me. I came to Maplewood, Vermont, to discover my independence. But it’s ...

Book Review: Slay

Image
SLAY  is a dark romance novella. It follows a meticulous serial killer who never makes mistakes...until one night, when a woman derails a kill he had been planning for months. Suddenly, his careful world shifts, and obsession takes root. He doesn't think that she could want him, yet he finds himself compelled to care for her in ways no one else ever has—all while inching closer to a dangerous intimacy neither can fully control. Please review trigger warnings before reading. Hamlet: For years, my work has been flawless. As the nation’s most notorious killer, I don’t make mistakes. Until the night I met her. The moment she stumbled into my world, everything changed. She is guarded and full of secrets, and she is dangerous for me. She makes me do dangerous things. Things that could get me caught. Yet I am drawn to her in a way I cannot ignore, compelled to protect her—from the world… and from myself. As boundaries blur and my obsession deepens, I find myself confronting desires...

Book Review: Captured Prey

Image
I want to be hunted…but not by just anyone. No – it must be by the monster I have secretly craved. Chase me. Devour me. Take what is already yours. I know I shouldn’t speak these desires aloud, but I’ve longed for this – to be the heroine sprinting through a moonlit forest, breathless and trembling, pursued by something dark enough to unmake me. When I uncovered the rumor buried in a forgotten academic footnote, I knew I would come here. A secret invitation. An unholy promise. If this is what I want, why not indulge? I will be the prey. All I need now is the hunter waiting in the forest. Captured A Primal Play Novella  is part of the Second Circle Entry series, told in third-person POV. Each story explores desire, inhibition, and awakening in richly sensual worlds. Often pairing mortals with monsters, love and hunger intertwine as things that go bump in the night steal your heart…and possibly your soul. Seductive. Sinister. What are you waiting for? My Review I thought this ...

Audiobook Review: Colton

Image
Her revenge. His obsession. Her ruin. Luella infiltrated his world to destroy the man who took everything from  her. But Colton Blackwood wasn’t supposed to be part of the plan—ruthless, unhinged, and just as damaged. He sees through her lies, breaks through her walls, and pulls her into a nightmare she can’t escape. Their hatred ignites a savage hunger. Their war leaves scars. There are no heroes here. Only monsters... and the girl who wanted to burn them all. A pitch-black, twisted romance of vengeance, captivity, and obsession. For readers who crave their love stories cruel, consuming, and beyond redemption. Content Warning:  This is a dark romance with highly disturbing and potentially upsetting content. Intended for mature readers only. Please review the full trigger warning before reading. My Review Luella is one tough FMC. While she was walking right into the lion's den and lots to fear, she showed that she would not back down. Do we "hate" Colton, the answer is ...

Book Review: Scales and Scars

Image
Takar is a lion shifter warrior with a gentle heart. One fateful day in Africa left him scarred emotionally and physically, turning him into a monster. He tries to find peace by relocating to the coast and shutting out his inner lion, resigning himself to a life without love. But the fates have other plans. Aria has never had it easy. The mermaid shifter’s mom died shortly after she was born, and her father is slowly dying after being poisoned by an oil spill. When Aria meets Takar, she knows he is her mate, but he doesn't seem to understand. Just as she might be getting through to him, the unthinkable happens. Can fate be so cruel as to bond her to someone responsible for her father's death? Can their mate bond handle the pressure to join Land and Sea? My Review I really liked this book. The reimagined twist that the author took from The Little Mermaid and The Lion King was nice. I instantly got the references and liked seeing the refences throughout the book. While I love b...
