The Boys of Fire and Ash

Fans of Rick Riordian, John Flanagan, and Anthony Horowitz will race through the pages of this dynamic and dark story about fighting for the people we love no matter what the cost.

Abandoned at birth, the Brothers of the Ikkuma Pit know no mothers. They fend for themselves, each training their Little Brother to survive until they turn sixteen, when it’s their Leaving Day. No boy knows what’s beyond the forest. But when Urgle’s Little Brother, Cubby, is carried off by troll-like predators, Urgle and two of his Brothers embark on a quest to rescue him from a place from which no one has ever returned.

Library Binding, 352 pages
Expected publication: May 12th 2015 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers
My Review
Instantly, this book kind of reminded me of Lord of the Flies. Yet there is no cannibalism happening in this book. Well not between the boys anyways. However there are deaths. The world that Meaghan has built for this story was what I absolutely loved about this book. It felt futuristic but real at the same time as if I could imagine this world really existing. All of the boys were good. Yet there were some stand out stars like Blaze, Urgle, and even Urgle's little brother, Cubby. Although, I have to admit that my favorite was Urgle. He really immerged as the hero of the whole story. There is every in this book from an intriguing world, great characters, a believable storyline, action and intrigue, and a good ending. Worth your time to check out.

Science and electronics have never been so much fun!
Hardcover, 256 pages
Expected publication: May 5th 2015 by Quirk Books
My Review
I have read every book in this series. Originally I got the first book for my nephews thinking this might be a book they would like. Well it ends up that I have fallen in love with this series just as much as them. I have grown very close to Nick, Tesla, their Uncle Newt, and their friends. Each of the mysteries that they find themselves solving is crazy fun. Nick and Tesla have solved several mysteries now so they are really getting better at solving them quickly.
However for some reason I could not get into this story as much as I have the other ones. While I did like the different setting. The mystery this time did not pull me in. It felt like the story either was fast paced by this I mean (glossed over with details off the antics) or not enough detail was spent on the mystery. Although I still enjoyed seeing how Nick, Tesla and their friends solved the mystery. There are some cool gadgets to build in this book. I do look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Demon’s Vengeance Blog Tour

Title: Demon’s Vengeance: The Complete Final Asylum Tales
Author: Jocelynn Drake
Publisher: Harper Voyager Impulse
Genre: Paranormal Fantasy
Format: Kindle

The complete novel that comprises Demon’s Fury, Demon’s Vow and Inner Demon.

Powerful warlock and tattoo artist Gage has managed to escape the magical Ivory Towers who terrorize the rest of humans and monsters—but at a price. Now he must join forces with his nemesis, Gideon, to stop an entity that is using forbidden Death Magic to commit gruesome murders across the nation. And if that’s not keeping him busy enough, an investigator recruits Gage to help her track a killer … who might be targeting tattoo artists.

When Gage discovers a demon locked away, it offers him access to dark magic in exchange for its freedom—a dangerous opportunity, but one that could save his loved ones. Gage must choose between what is right and what is easy.

My Review

If you are wanting to discover what author, Jocelynn Drake is about or the Asylum Tales then this is a good book to check out. You can read it as a stand alone book. All three short stories that are featured in this compilation work well together as one whole book. Right away I fell for Gideon and Gage. I can't pick a favorite between them so I choose them both. Gideon was more mature and seasoned which I was drawn too but on the other hand Gage had the bad boy feel with a heart of gold. The way that he reacted to the news involving his girlfriend, Trixie was sweet. They make a cute couple. Both guys are sexy as Hell. So as you can see Gideon and Gage worked well together. Although at times it was iffy. The storyline was good. It did feature some magic and was believable. Yet, It did seem like nothing really happened until about the middle of the second story or middle of the story. The ending was good. I will check out more books in this series.

Love comes in many varied forms. There is the love of family, love of country, and love of chocolate. But for Jocelynn Drake, one truly treasured love is the love of a good story. This Midwestern native spends the majority of her time lost in the strong embrace of a good book. When she’s not hammering away at her keyboard, frowning at her monitor, or curled up with a book, she can usually be found cuddling with her cat Demona, walking her dog Max, or flinging curses at the TV while playing a video game. Outside of books, cats, and video games, she is completely enamored of Bruce Wayne, Ezio Auditore, travel, tattoos, explosions, fast cars, and Anthony Bourdain (but only when he’s feeling really cranky).

Losing Faith

Losing Faith
A Novel
By Adam Mitzner
Published by Gallery Books
Hardcover: 368 pages
April 14, 2015; $26.00 US/$32.00 CAN; 9781476764245
From the acclaimed author Publishers Weekly called "a gifted writer" comes this nail-biting legal thriller in the bestselling tradition of John Grisham and Scott Turow.
Aaron Littmann, the chairman of one of the country's most prestigious law firms, has just been contacted by a high-profile defense attorney, whose client is Nikolai Garkov, a Russian businessman arraigned on terrorism charges for pulling the financial strings behind recent treasonous acts. The attorney informs Aaron that Garkov is looking to switch representation and will pay one hundred thousand dollars just to take the meeting. But Aaron doesn't have any choice, as Garkov is ready to go public with the damning evidence that Aaron and the judge in the high-profile case -- Faith Nichols -- had a torrid affair during another recent case. Filled with suspense, twists, and turns, Losing Faith will captivate legal thriller fans everywhere.

My Review

I am a fan of Mr. Mitzner. His first book, A Conflict of Interest was a good showing and I was drawn to Adam and his relationship with Faith. So with Losing Faith I was interested to see how Adam and Faith were doing. If anything in this book Adam has grown with his wealth of knowledge and is a force to be recognized with. Although I did like Adam, this was not enough to fully captivate me into fully embracing this story. It was not in your face with the intensity but it was still an enjoyable read. There was a twist that I did not see coming until it was revealed. The way that Adam solved it all was what did keep my interest peaked. This book is a quick read that ended on a good note.

Escape Through the Wilderness Blog Tour

About the Book:

Title: Escape Through the Wilderness
Author: Gary Rodriguez
Publisher: Tate Publishing
Pages: 254
Genre: Teens/Children
Format: Paperback/Kindle

Sixteen-year-old Savannah Evans walks with a slight limp thanks to a gymnastics’ accident that dashed her Olympic dreams, but didn’t stop her from attending an adventure camp in Idaho. At Camp Arrowhead, she quickly befriends Jade Chang and Rico Cruz, but Conner Swift taunts Savi because of her injury.

When the four are teamed together for an overnight white-water river rafting adventure, Savi refuses to get in the same raft with Conner. Unfortunately, the director will not reassign her.

A fun expedition down the river turns into a nightmare when their raft slams into a huge rock and their adult guide disappears down the river.

Without their guide and desperately trying to steer an out-of-control raft, they pass the "last chance" marker and enter the larger rapids. With Jade pinned between the raft and a rock, and Rico clinging to a lifeline, Savi must cut the raft free.

When the four drag themselves out of the river, they’re bruised, beaten, lost, and twenty-five miles from camp. Because of late-night campfire tales of Vexel, a vicious animal that roams the nearby woods, Savi and the others are terrified.

Savi becomes the unlikely leader who tries to guide the group back to Camp Arrowhead. Limited supplies, injuries, and the constant threat of Vexel—who Savi fears is stalking them, complicate the harrowing return trip.

Readers will enjoy dramatic survival scenes and the group working together, solving problems, and learning to overcome adversity.

Book Excerpt:

Suddenly, they heard a loud rustling of bushes and branches snapping downriver not far from where they had set up their makeshift camp.

"What was that?" Savi whispered anxiously. "It couldn’t be Vexel, could it?"

"Quiet." Rico rebuked her with a hush. He raised the tip of his nearly finished spear.

Again, they heard more noise in the woods. This time they knew it was getting closer.

My Review

I thought this was a good, quick read. While the creatures in this book are scary, they were realistic. Animals that you would encounter lost in the wilderness. Savannah, Jade, Rico, and Conner actually made a good team. At first I was not sure if I was going to like the kids. Yet they did grow on me as the story went on. The way that they handled every situation that they encountered was good. They banded together and drew strength from one another. With a good storyline, realistic characters, good back ground location, and a nice pacing of the story, this book is worth your time to read. Especially if you are looking for new authors to check out. You will not be disappointed.

Every Bride Needs a Groom

Small-town girl Katie Fisher is planning her wedding. Sure, her boyfriend hasn't managed to pop the question just yet, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't enter a contest in "Texas Bride" magazine to win the dress of her dreams, right? But when her boyfriend breaks up with her and takes a job in another town--the very same day Katie wins her dream dress--her world is turned upside down. Should she claim her prize? And will the hunky former pro-basketball player who runs the swanky Dallas bridal shop--yeah, you read that right--catch on to her humiliation if she does?
Janice Thompson designs a romance sure to delight, with plenty of fish-out-of-water moments, a hilarious supporting cast, and more of the wedding biz world her readers adore.

Review by Blanche Mancuso

This is my first book that I have read by this author but it won't be the last one I read. Ms. Thompson just breathes romance from the first chapter until the very last page. This is the first book in the Brides with Style series. As I said prior that I just loved this book. Everything from the romance to the characters to the comedy. Katie is such a sweetheart. There is nothing that you can't like about her. Plus she also had sass about her. Than there is Katie's grandma, Queenie. What a cool name. She always had words of wisdom to give to Katie. You can bet that Queenie would produce some laughs and smiles with her words.

Brady is easy on the eyes and a gentleman. It is easy to see how Katie could fall for him. They were cute together. Because of all of the great characters in this story and the funny moments, I could not stop reading this book. Thus it make for an enjoyable, quick read.

Kidnap, Part 1. of Guy Erma and the Son of Empire

I don’t want to go… Do I have to go?
13-year-old Prince Teodor of Freyne knows his duty to the memory of his father and his kingdom. Always, he must help those less fortunate than himself. Yet a frightening nightmare fills him with foreboding, but still he must do - into the Dome.

13-year-old Guy Erma lives in the shadow of the Dome, he has no father and no mother and his future is uncertain, he must start earning a living when he turns 14. He knows not where he will live or even how he will eat, and his only dream is to enter the military academy - at the heart of the Dome.

Two boys as different as any two boys might be. One act of cruelty will throw their lives together, but who dare they trust?

My Review

This is a really good book. If you like sci-fi books or are a fan of the Aoleon books by Mr. Brent LeVasseur, who just makes to give his thumbs up on this book, then you might want to check this book out.

It has a good storyline and characters. Prince Teodor of Freyne and Guy Erma are both strong characters. However I have to say that in the beginning I thought that Guy stood out as the stronger male lead for me. Yet as the story progressed Teodor did grow in strides as well. Another person that I liked is Captain Karl Valvanchi. His storyline was strong too. He helped bring the diffent sides of this story together.

Reading this book brings out my geek side. This is because I like the world that the author has built and there are Borg! I have not read many books with Borg in it. This excites me because I am a Trekky (Star Trek fan). So if this does not get you excited to check this book out then the illustrations will. They are colorful and full length. I can't wait to read the second book in this series.

Getting IT Right

Title: Getting It Right (Book one of the Restoration series)
Author: A.M. Arthur
Publisher: Carina Press (Harlequin)
Pages: 249
Genre: Contemporary Romance / M/M
Format: Kindle/Nook
For a dramatic male/male read, look no further than Getting It Right by A.M. Arthur. This contemporary romance is full of heart-wrenching moments guaranteed to draw you in and leave you wanting more.
Detective Nathan Wolf might just be a junior detective, but he tackles every case with the passion that he lacks in his personal life. A series of failed relationships with women has left him still single at thirty-four–because he’s too scared to admit to his longtime crush on his best friend James.
Dr. James Taggert likes to keep his profession as a psychiatrist separate from his party-animal persona. Known around the gay clubs as Tag, he’s the guy who screws them, leaves them, and never looks back. But James’s drinking is getting heavier, and when bad memories from the past resurface, he’s close to becoming the worst version of himself.
After a drunken blackout ends in a hot and heavy make-out session with his very straight best friend, James has no memory of the steamy affair. But Nathan isn’t sorry for the kisses that James can’t remember. Nathan finally musters the courage to tell James how he really feels, but a life-altering event might force them apart before they can ever be together.
No stranger to the writing world, A.M. Arthur has been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long. She credits an early fascination with male friendships and “bromance” (and “The Young Riders”) with her later discovery of and subsequent affair with m/m romance stories. When not writing, she can be found in her kitchen, pretending she’s an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments.

Book Excerpt:

He smoked his way through two more cigarettes before Nathan’s beat-up Ram pickup pulled alongside the curb. For a city cop, he was still adorably country. Nathan leaned across the console to shove open the passenger side door, and James gratefully slid inside. The simple, familiar presence of Nathan nearby made James’s nerves unfurl a little bit more. Nathan was the one thing in James’s life that had always made sense. Had always been easy.

Weariness settled into his bones, turning his drunken daze into extreme fatigue. He wanted to pass out and soon.

Nathan shoved a bottle of water at him, then eased the truck back into the street. He cracked both of the front windows, probably because James reeked of smoke. Nathan had never been shy about telling him how gross his habit was. Nathan was also smart enough not to engage in conversation until they were shuffling up the short sidewalk to Nathan’s half of a two-story duplex. Nathan slung an arm around James’s waist, and the heat of the other man’s body so close felt amazing. Real. Not like the fake closeness of dancing with strangers in a crowded bar.

He finally got a good look at his friend as Nathan crossed the narrow living room to the kitchen in the rear. Flannel pajama pants and a spring coat. James had woken him up.

Yeah, I’m a douche bag.

"You hungry?" Nathan shouted from the kitchen.

"No." In the familiar, somewhat cluttered warmth of Nathan’s home, he had a safe place to wallow in the shame still burning in his gut.

Nathan’s place was the definition of a straight bachelor’s pad—which worked since Nathan was a straight bachelor. Dark leather furniture right out of a magazine’s page, decorated exactly the same because he couldn’t be bothered. A monster, sixty-inch flat screen mounted on the wall over an entertainment console boasted two gaming systems, alongside a Blu-ray player and hundreds of movies. Only a handful of photos hung on the wall, mostly of his rather large extended family that lived in southern Delaware.

James paused to stare at a familiar photo of himself with Nathan, taken right after Nathan had graduated from the police academy. They were both grinning, arms slung around each other’s shoulder. Nathan so handsome in his uniform, James in a gray suit that hadn’t been stylish in a decade. Because that’s how long it had been. Nathan had made detective last year, so he didn’t wear his uniform anymore. James sort of missed it.

Nathan came back into the living room sans coat, a white wifebeater showing off his muscled arms and flat stomach. He was one-eighth Nanticoke Indian on his mother’s side, which gave his skin a lovely golden hue. His short hair was shiny black, and was always soft on the rare occasion James had a reason to touch it. His dark brown eyes often seemed to be smiling at him, even when things were serious, like right now.

He was carrying a bamboo tray loaded down with two shot glasses, a bottle of Kentucky bourbon and a bag of barbecue potato chips. He settled the tray on his magazine-covered coffee table, then poured them each a shot.

James sank onto the couch next to Nathan and accepted the glass. After a silent toast, he threw it back. The harsh, smoky liquid burned its way into his stomach.

Nathan refilled both glasses. "Does your mom know?"

Aoleon The Martian Girl-Part 4 Illegal Aliens

Genre: Science-fiction and Fantasy
Publisher: Aoléon Press
Release date: February 1, 2015
Available for review in:  PDF
Will send books: Internationally
Tour dates: April
Content Rating: G

Book Description:

Aoleon and Gilbert have become the Luminon’s top priority in stopping the Martian resistance movement, and after being chased by the Royal Paladin Guard, they are forced to flee the Martian Megalopolis. Aoléon, Gilbert and Zoot escape with the help of Bizwat and his newly found friend, Helios, a first generation soldierbot.

After their saucer is destroyed, they crash land somewhere in the deep Martian desert, and they set out to locate Kyrios and the secret base where Aoleon’s parents are being held captive.

After battling the forces of nature, starvation, a Klyklon dust storm, (and not to mention a giant slor that almost swallows them alive), they finally make it to their destination. However, after Kyrios gives Gilbert some basic training to develop his budding psionic power, they learn that their journey is far from over.

Will Aoléon, Glbert, Bizwat, Helios, and Zoot be able to rescue Aoleon’s parents and stop the Martian invasion of Earth in time?

Read part 4 to find out!

My Review

In part four, the Luminon is finally ready to launch his attack on Gilbert's planet. It is now or never for Gilbert and Aoleon to find a way to put a stop to Luminon's plan or Gilbert's family and the rest of the people on Earth will meet their fate.

I really enjoyed this part of the story. This is because I have grown attached to Gilbert and Aoleon and their crazy adventures. So I just can sit back and enjoy reading this book. Also, it was nice to get to see a few new faces with Bizwat, Helios, and Zoot. Well Bizwat is not new as he was introduced in earlier section of the book but he had more of a major part in this section of the story. This part read really fast as there was a lot more action happening. This time Gilbert, Aoleon and the gang left Mars for more danger. While I would have to say that this part is probably one of my favorite parts of the book, I did miss seeing more of the awesome illustrations. They are so colorful and eye-popping. This is saying something as I have been reading this book on my computer. No special effects required for the illustrations. They are out of this world great! Which makes reading this book even better. It is like an experience. Like watching a movie. I can not wait to see how this story all ends in part five.

An Excerpt
Ray grabs my wrists and pins them to the mat over my head, his body angled over me. My breath catches in my throat, and I steel myself for the memories, the black rush, the heart-pounding fear, but it doesn’t come. Instead, a red haze settles over my vision, and I press my lips together and buck my hips, throwing him slightly forward.
Bad plan. Now his groin is only inches away from my face. He’s still wearing his jeans, which means that bulge isn’t a cup.
Ray...(His face softens. I hurt you. (Yes, you hurt me. Keeping secrets hurts me. It makes me feel like you don't respect me. And it makes me feel like I can't trust you. So maybe you could return to your proper seat now. Tray table up. He shifts down, settling his weight over my hips, but he doesn’t release my hands. "I hurt you. Means you care."
I swallow hard and meet his gaze. "You hurting me means I was being stupid. Things were going where I didn’t want them to go. Now I’ve had a wake-up call. You have secrets you can’t share. You need to protect your secrets. I need to be with someone I can trust, and I need to stand on my own two feet. It’s just not going to work between us."
His gaze darkens, searing me to the core. "You want to be done? Or are you scared and trying to push me away?"
The air shifts between us, electrifying, tightening my nipples and heating my blood. I am hyperaware of his thighs tucked against my hips, carrying most of his weight as he sits astride me in a dominant MMA position. My wrists, hot under his palms, press against the cool mat, restrained in a way I could never have imagined allowing them to be restrained. My chest rises and falls twice for every one of Ray’s breaths, and my core tightens. The innuendo isn’t lost on me. God, yes. I want to be done in the carnal sense of the word. But only by Ray. And I don’t really want to let him go.
"I don’t want to lose you."
Ray’s hands tighten on my wrists, and he leans down and brushes a kiss over my lips. "I don’t want to lose you either, but I live in a dangerous world. I’ve got stuff in my life that would make your head spin. I need to protect you from that, and I’ll do what it takes to keep you safe, even if it means you hate me for it, because for the first time in my life, I want something more than doing my duty. I want a life and I want you in it. I’ve got one bad guy to catch and then I’m free. And after I’m done and after what went down this evening, you’ll never have to worry about being safe again."
Finally, he releases my hands but I don’t move. Heat sweeps through my belly. I feel both vulnerable and curiously safe lying beneath him. My gaze shifts from his intense gaze to his sensual lips, and my breasts swell, remembering the touch of his hands, the gentle press of his lips. He wants me. Not just today, but tomorrow and the tomorrow after that.
"You make it sound like I don’t have a choice about being with you."
"You don’t." He leans down and kisses me with a savage fierceness that takes my breath away.

OMG! Superposition

Jacob Kelley's family is turned upside down when an old friend turns up, waving a gun and babbling about an alien quantum intelligence. The mystery deepens when the friend is found dead in an underground bunker…apparently murdered the night before he appeared at Jacob's house. Jacob is arrested for the murder and put on trial.

As the details of the crime slowly come to light, the weave of reality becomes ever more tangled, twisted by a miraculous new technology and a quantum creature unconstrained by the normal limits of space and matter. With the help of his daughter, Alessandra, Jacob must find the true murderer before the creature destroys his family and everything he loves.

My Review

I have never read anything by this author. Now that I have read this book, I plan to keep this author on my radar. OMG! I feel hard for this book. My only flaw was that I started it late in the evening and so I had to put it down to get some sleep. Yet, you can bet that once I got up and carved myself out some time, I jumped right back into this book. It was not long before I was finished with it.

This book may be fiction but it could read as if it was nonfiction. I could totally imagine this really happening in today's world. Sci-fi/tech readers will really enjoy this book. Also, anyone wanting to check out this genre should as you will be hooked.

The way that this book was formatted with the past and the present alternating with each chapter was great. I really understood the who "down and up spin". I was so memorized by what was happening in this book that I could not stop reading. A must read for sure! I will be checking out more books by this author.
