Book Review: Violence and Vice

Image
I came back different. Not born, but made. Stronger. Sharper. Maybe I should be devastated by the choice that was made for me. Instead, I feel powerful. Capable. Invincible. But nothing about this new life matters if I can’t find Ares. He’s unraveling—slipping into darkness, losing time, and leaving blood in his wake. The man I love is becoming something monstrous, and no one knows how to stop it. But I swear I will. Even if I have to tear apart everything else in my life to bring him back. New enemies are closing in, and the streets I’ve always called home are starting to feel like a targeted minefield as history repeats itself. This world is so much bigger than I ever realized, its shadows darker, its origins more sinister. But it’s the betrayals that cut the deepest—the ones I never saw coming. In a blood-driven system of power, politics, and predators, love may not be enough to save us all. My Review I have followed Ares and Lana's journey since book one. It has been filled w...

Book Review: Hard as Wood

Image
Clara has always had a soft spot for her puppets, especially Pineo, the charming wooden man her father carved when she was just a girl. But when a wish on a star brings Pineo to life—as a full-grown man—Clara’s world turns upside down. Now, navigating his new human desires, he’s determined to win Clara’s heart, but the world throws obstacles in their way, making them wonder if they’ll be enough for each other. Clara and Pineo must saw through their fears to accept the true love granted by the stars. My Review Two words...maple syrup! I will never think of maple syrup in the same way again after reading this book. This book also gives a new meaning to the saying "hard as wood".  Never dreamt of Pinocchio as being a book boyfriend. Yet, after reading this book, I have having second thoughts. It was sweet and funny to see Pineo learning about how to be a "real man". I could feel the instant connection between him and Clara. This is a fun, quick read. If you are a fan...

Image
Romantic Suspense Single dad Small town Secrets & Blackmail Hate-to-love Returning home Found Family Bourbon “Tasting” In Fiasco, Kentucky, there is one rule: never fall for a Foxx brother. Any woman who did, ended up dead. It wasn’t just a rumor. It was my reality. I buried my wife along with too many secrets surrounding the night she died. Now, I’m a single dad with two priorities above everything else: raising my two girls and making great bourbon. But when Faye Calloway returns after I ran her out of my small town—looking like a fantasy on stage and nothing like the cop she was trained to be—I know for a fact that she’s hiding more secrets than the one she blackmailed me to keep. While everyone is focused on the teasingly beautiful burlesque dancer, I’m distracted by the woman with a hidden agenda. The smart-mouth, who says what she wants. And the instigator, who prefers a very specific way to drink her bourbon. But as secrets begin to unravel, I realize she’s fiercely pr...

Josie: Before the Moment There are ghosts at every corner. In the stolen kisses while I waitressed at the diner, in the town festivals at the square, in the many jokes about Betty Bagley and her pie at the Fall Farmer’s Market, and in the countless nights watching Clay make drinks with that handsome smile of his while I sat on a stool at his bar. Book Review: Sacrificing Zoriah

Image
I drift through life from one tragedy to the next, praying for death to have mercy on my soul. Until my saviors guide me out of the dark and awaken something sinfully brutal within me. It doesn’t stop the shadows from creeping back in. I was never supposed to escape, and they want me back. Will I survive the sacrifice, or will I be another forgotten soul? THIS IS A DARK ROMANCE WITH VERY HEAVY TRIGGERS. READER'S DISCRETION IS HIGHLY ADVISED. My Review OMG. I felt for Zoriah. The innocence she lost when she was taken. It is not something she can get back. Yet, she is fortunate to have found several men who love her and want to help her claim her power.  Zoriah is not the only one that found herself in the horrible situation. There is Huxley as well. Yes, men can be victims as well. In a way I am glad that Zoriah had Huxley by her side going through the same ordeal. They were able to lean on one another for support. Then there is Roman, who is Zoriah's boss. I really liked the...

Book Review: Dexter: The Stand Up Dog

Image
From content creator and proud pet parent Kentee Pasek, and award-winning author-illustrator, Bonnie Kelso, comes a picture book about a worldwide Internet sensation and inspirational canine companion. Dexter: The Stand Up Dog tells an amazing story of perseverance and determination as unique and heart-warming as Dexter himself. Dexter was a happy Brittany Spaniel rescue puppy - running, playing with his ball, begging for belly rubs - until one day he ran out the door and over the fence into the road. Injured in a terrible accident, Dexter lost one front leg and the use of the other, but survived the ordeal through the skill of his veterinary team and love of his family. When Dexter finally came home, it was hard to run and jump again. His family bought him a wheelchair, but Dexter wanted to go faster. He made up his mind to do the impossible. And so one day . . . he did! Dexter learned to walk, hop and run on two legs, and was embraced by the small Colorado community he called h...

Audiobook Review: The Single Dad's Guide to Recreation

Image
do not read this book unless you ❤️Buttoned-up heroes who are silly with their kids ❤️Sunshiny, Cinderelly heroines ❤️Nosy, interfering, small town bureaucrats ❤️Possibly magical HEA-predicting clock towers ❤️Romantic weekend getaways with Forced Proximity Smexy times ❤️ Parks and Rec  and  Schitt’s Creek  vibes At least I didn’t fall on my patootie. That’s what I keep telling myself when the box of supplies I’m carrying crashes to the floor. When the sexiest man in a suit to set foot in my place of employment finds me scrounging on the ground for markers and gluesticks. When he holds out a hand to help me to my feet, and his touch sends a shiver through me, just like in the movies. It’s only when he shows up to the toddler class I teach that I learn how wrong we are for each other. He’s more stoic than the statue of our town’s founder; I cry at commercials. He’s moved upstate from Manhattan; I returned to my small town roots after my big city relationship fell apa...

Book Review: My Sweet Ruin

Image
I was safe, but now I am his toy. His toy to break and reshape. He says this is the only way. Will it always hurt to be loved by him? He is my captor. My twin brother My sweet ruin. My Review Talk about being "unhinged". That is the best word to describe Tabby's twin brother, Travis. He is straight up obsessed with her. No one and I mean no one can have her but him. There is a lot of intimate scenes between T&T. Yet I am going to tell you now that they are not by Tabby's choice.  If you have not read a Dani Rose book, just be warned. She writes very dark stories. If you like your books to have HEAs, then this is probably not the book for you. There is no HEA. Although if you like Harleigh Beck and Yolanda Olson then you will like this book.

My brother? He’s  dead . My first love?  Dead . Accident or murder? I am alone. Until I’m not. My first love left behind three brothers, and for some reason they won’t leave me alone. No matter where I go or what I do, there they are. Always watching in the shadows, waiting for something to happen, but what? The oldest, Grayson, says he's trying to keep everyone safe. He's overbearing, controlling, demeaning. But even more so, lonely. I see myself in him, maybe we will be each other’s salvation? Or will I be his demise? The middle, Axel, he got out of prison just in time to hear the news of his twin’s death. He is angry, domineering, and keeps pushing me to my limits and then past them. Especially in the middle of the night when I think I’m alone. To everyone else I’m Sunday, but to him? I am just a little lamb. The youngest, oh sweet, kind, supportive, Darius. I don’t think I would have made it through my grief without him. But why is he the most dangerous of the three...
