Book Review: A Kiss to Wake
You never forget the one that got away…Louise Dubois was tired of hiding.
After being attacked by an unknown assailant three years ago, she is moving on with her life. As if on cue, officer Gregory Band – an old university flame – calls upon Louise to revisit her own cold case and give him new leads to follow in a local murder. Louise dusts off old memories, willing to do anything to help Gregory catch the Marda Loop murderer.
The similarities between the recent murder and Louise’s unsolved case cannot be ignored. Single women, minimal traces of DNA, and the signature red dress at the scene. But these connections aren’t the only thing making Louise’s heart race. A resurgence of feelings for her former lover has her pulse pounding too. She wonders if she can trust their fragile connection or if the past will come back to haunt her once again.
With Gregory’s help, Louise takes charge of her own destiny, using her fragmented memories to lead them to the killer threatening the citizens of Marda Loop.
Will Louise find the strength to face the past in order to build a brighter future?
Or will the murderer finally silence the one who got away?
My Review
I like the romantic relations that formed between Gregory and Louise. It was a nice way to keep the story a little lighthearted with the nature of the serious cases that these two are trying to solve. You could tell that these two shared genuine feelings for each other. It was like time had not passed at all before these two were dating. Gregory is a bit cheeky but at the same time sexy. These two do share steamy scenes together. No more fawning over the handsome weatherman as Louise has Gregory.
I liked the other cast of characters. They helped keep the story entertaining. They felt like they belonged and not just side characters. Because I enjoyed all of the characters, I was engaged in the story. This was a fast read for me. I look forward to continuing this series with the next book.
