Lies We Tell Our Kids

Image
From acclaimed artist Brett Wagner comes a book about the tall tales that parents tell their kids in the hopes of getting them to do something—eat, sleep, apologize to their sibling, or learn to do something the right way. Fun, heartfelt, and a little bit weird, Lies We Tell Our Kids exposes the not-so-great generational parenting tactic of lying to your child for the greater good! Brett Wagner is a Pittsburgh-based illustrator and filmmaker with a penchant for puns and visual anomalies. A generalist by trade, he works mostly in commercial video production, while his short narrative film All Raccoons Are Bandits has been screened internationally. When not on set, he spends most of his time with a box full of Copic markers drawing colorful creatures for himself and others. My Review OK, I read others opinions of this book and while I understand that this book would not be appropriate for kids, I do feel like it would be fine for readers starting at twelve to thirteen years old

Good Girl's Guide to County Jail

Title : GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO COUNTY JAIL Author : Ellen Marie Francisco Publisher : Scribbles and Ink Publishing / Friesen Press Pages : 176 Genre : Nonfiction BOOK BLURB:  Millions of viewers have made the television series “Orange is the New Black” a pop culture sensation, but Ellen Marie Francisco ( http://www.EllenMarieFrancisco.com ) has no interest in watching it or reading the memoir, by Piper Kerman, which spawned the hit show. Francisco has lived her own version of “Orange is the New Black,” an experience she refers to as “innocent in oranges.” “Oranges” is prison jargon for the orange jump suits worn by prisoners who have been charged but who have not yet been to trial, Francisco explains. Francisco, an author and entrepreneur, describes her experience behind bars in her latest book, GOOD GIRL’S GUIDE TO COUNTY JAIL (FOR THE BAD GIRL IN

The French Girl

They were six university students from Oxford--friends and sometimes more than friends--spending an idyllic week together in a French farmhouse. It was supposed to be the perfect summer getaway--until they met Severine, the girl next door. For Kate Channing, Severine was an unwelcome presence, her inscrutable beauty undermining the close-knit group's loyalties amid the already simmering tensions. And after a huge altercation on the last night of the holiday, Kate knew nothing would ever be the same. There are some things you can't forgive, and there are some people you can't forget, like Severine, who was never seen again. Now, a decade later, the case is reopened when Severine's body is found in the well behind the farmhouse. Questioned along with her friends, Kate stands to lose everything she's worked so hard to achieve as suspicion mounts around her. Desperate to resolve her own shifting memories and fearful she will be forever bound to the woman whose pres

Having forfeited his youth to the state prison system, Michael moved back to the only home he'd ever known. An empty shell of a man who now lived--if it could be called living--in the still vacant house of his parents in a town with one stoplight. A town that hated him. Had always hated him. And was ready to pick up where the prison system had let off. Now he's on the run from men who've tried to kill him once; but Michael is more than an ex-con. A powerful, sinister force creeps inside him, threatening and destructive. Who--and what--it will destroy next is the only real question. From the bold voice that brought readers down Purgatory Road comes a new pulse-pounding, spine-rattling tale of vengeance and justice that will have them up all night. My Review I enjoyed this book a lot. Although, what held me back from fully committing 100% was the fact that I found myself not committed to the characters all the way. Which in turn was easy for my attention to be dive

Doesn’t matter who did it. Not anymore. I did the time. It’s over.” When Drix was convicted of a crime—one he didn’t commit—he thought his life was over.
