Becky's Online Reading Group

Hey all you fellow readers and bloggers. My friend J. Kaye is helping out to spread the word about a reading group that Becky is rying to get more people interested in. For all the details head on over to her site at http://readingwithbecky.wordpress.com The next book up to be discussed is LIFE AS WE KNEW IT by Susan Beth Pfeffer Take a look: When Miranda first hears the warnings that a meteor is headed on a collision path with the moon, they just sound like an excuse for extra homework assignments. But her disbelief turns to fear in a split second as the entire world witnesses a lunar impact that knocks the moon closer in orbit, catastrophically altering the earth’s climate. Everything else in Miranda’s life fades away as supermarkets run out of food, gas goes up to more than ten dollars a gallon, and school is closed indefinitely. But what Miranda and her family don’t realize is that the worst is yet to come. Told in Miranda’s diary entries, this is a heart-pounding account of her s

The Book Thief

Image
This book is narrated by none other than death itself. We start out with Liesel Meminger a young girl living with her foster parents Rosa and Herr Hubermanns, outside of Munich in Nazi Germany. Liesel steals her first book at the cemetery of her little bother. The next book stolen is during a burning party of propaganda. During this time her father, Herr teaches her to read in their basement. Ruby Steiner, her best friend gets into all kind of trouble like standing up to some bullies at the Nazi youth diversion, stealing food, and following Liesel on her many trips to the mayor’s house, where she steals many of her books from. Everything is all good till one day a Jew by the name of Max Vandenburg asks for her father’s help. Hiding in the Hubermanns’s basement, Liesel and Max learn they have many things in common This book was such a joy to read. It was refreshing and different. I loved it so much that I read it in one day. Plus the aspect of death narrating this book was great too.

Get Heartsick with Chelsea Cain

I read this book a few months ago and have to say it was a good one. I loved the fact that this book featured more on a woman serial killer this time vs. a man. The only one little problem I had with it was that I thought Gretchen was more promient than the male killer in the book that Gretchen was suppose to help Archie track down. Still a good book. I give it 4 stars. Books Summary He can't forget the woman who kidnapped him. For ten days, she tortured him to the brink of death, then mysteriously set him free and turned herself in. Now two years later, he's addicted to pain pills, estranged from his family, and obsessed with her. Gretchen Lowell. She's beautiful. She's brilliant. She's a killer...And she still controls Detective Archie Sheridan-even from behind bars.As Archie trails a new case, he needs Gretechen now in more ways than one - to catch a killer and to release his soul Excerpt Archie doesn’t know for sure that it’s her until that moment. There is a du

Whistling in the Dark

Image
A friend lent me this book to read. It was a very good book. Highly recommend it!! Whenever someone asks me what is a good book to read, I say this one. Here is my review of the book. It was the summer of 1959. Sally and Troo’s mom was in the hospital, their step dad was busy hitting the bottle and their sister Nell had other things on her mind like her boyfriend. There were two murdered girls and Sally thought that she would be next. So that summer Sally and Troo were on a mission to track down the murder before something happened to Sally. David Rasmussen, the next door neighbor, who is a cop, happens to have a picture of one of the murdered girls. What is his secret and why does he have an interest in Sally. Despite the grittiness of a child predator killing little girls, Lesley Kagen still could keep the innocence of Sally and Troo throughout this book. For anyone who enjoyed reading Water for Elephants than you need to check this book out. Whistling in the Dark is a fun, adventu

The Fabulous Debbie Wallace/Tory Richards!

I am so excited to have gotten the chance to interview Debbie Wallace/Tory Richards. Her blog http://debbiewallace.blogspot.com/ is one of my favorite blogs to check out. Her latest book All in the Jeans has received great reviews, so check it out. Ok, now onto the fun stuff. I appreciate you answering some questions. Thanks for asking me to be here today. Describe your books in one sentence . Romances filled with on the edge of your seat suspense, wicked humor and breathless, sizzling sex. Where do you draw your inspirations from? Who are your inspirations? That’s a tough question, it all depends. It could be a place I’m vacationing, an incident, a dream, anything. I got my inspiration for “ ALL THE RIGHT MOVES ” from all the Law and Order I watch. “ SOMEONE TO LOVE ME ” when I went to Alaska. “ AGAINST THE ODDS ” came from a dream. “ WICKED DESIRE ”, due out in October under my pen name Tory Richards, takes place in the little town I’m from in Maine, around the China Lake area. Two Thrillers of Kevin O'Brien's

Image
I have read both of these books a while ago but thought I would chat about them, just in case no one has ever read this author's work. The first book I read of Kevin O'Brien's was The Killing Spree and the other one was One Last Scream . After reading One Last Scream , I am hooked and can't wait to read more by this author. When a serial killer gets a taste for blood...he only wants to do one thing...kill and kill again... Years ago, the Seattle police were baffled by the Schoolgirl Murders. The killer staged the scenes, dressing his female victims in school girl uniforms and saddle shoes. No woman in Seattle felt safe, until they caught the man responsible, and the case was forgotten… Across the country, a killing spree is taking place. The first victim is attacked in a taxi by a mysterious stranger. The next is found strangled in a changing room. A hitchhiker is left by the side of the road, his identity brutally stolen. The murders are so bizarre, so random, no on

I have not read this book but wanted to share it. This was one of the books featured in a newsletter I receive. As a small boy, Louis witnesses an unspeakable crime that takes the life of a member of his small, southern community. He grows up and moves on, but he is forever changed by the cruel and brutal nature of the act. It lights a fire deep within him that burns white and cold, a quiet flame just waiting to ignite. Now, years later, the sins of his life are reaching into his present, bringing with them the buried secrets and half-forgotten acts of his past. Someone is hunting him, targeting his home, his businesses, and his partner, Angel. The instrument of revenge is Bliss, a killer of killers, the most feared of assassins. Bliss is a Reaper, a lethal tool to be applied toward the ultimate end, but he is also a man with a personal vendetta. Hardened by their pasts, Louis and Angel decide to strike back. While they form a camaraderie that brings them solace, it offers them no shel

My feature today is on two books Shadow Man and The Face of Death by Cody McFadyen . For anything who likes suspense/thrillers will enjoy these books. While reading these books I can't belive that a man wrote them. You will understand when you read them as the way he writes the females characters and their personalites is just like a woman. I can't wait to see what Mr. McFadyen comes up with next. Here's a little bit about the book. Once, Special Agent Smoky Barrett hunted serial killers for the FBI. She was one of the best -- until a madman terrorized her family, killed her husband and daughter, and left her face scarred and her soul brutalized. Turning the tables on the killer, Smoky shot him dead–but her life was shattered forever. Now Smoky dreams about picking up her weapon again. She dreams about placing the cold steel between her lips and pulling the trigger one last time. Because for a woman who’s lost everything, what is there left to lose? She’s about to find

Pleasure

Image
I have not read this book yet but it sounded interesting. Pleasure is inspired by those tricky relationship questions: How realistic is it for a woman to expect one man to fulfill every need that she has? What if there is more than one side to her heart? What happens when the brain loses the battle with the heart and she acts on fantasies? And if a woman wants to live in the moment, if she wants to have things her way, is it wrong for a man to do the same?Pleasure will feature a cast of characters navigating their way through Atlanta's torrid heat and humidity. Filled with sexual energy, it mirrors the internal struggles that sparked the plots of Eric Jerome Dickey's most popular and erotic novels - Naughty or Nice, Between Lovers, and The Other Woman.

I do the "normal" stuff...laundry, housekeeping, cooking. I find time each day for exercise. In the summer months I garden. I spend time with my husband...that's my favorite part of any day! EXCERPT Kingdom of Hesione Outskirts of the Quantra Province If there was one thing Queen Jarina hated it was for her uncle to try and control her. She was queen after all, though he seemed to forget it at every turn. “Ampyx, hold your tongue,” Jarina said between clenched teeth. Her uncle disregarded her order as he spun toward the small group of nobles gathered in the chamber. “She must marry. No woman should rule alone. Each of you know what type of damage a woman can get us into,” he all but shouted as he swung around and pointed to Jarina. “She’s young and doesn’t know yet her true position. ”Jarina had heard enough. Today you are all in for a treat as the lovely Ms. Elizabeth Hoyt is here to chat. Her latest book To Taste Temptation , which is the first book in the Legend of the Four Soldiers series is coming out May 2008 but you can pre-order it right now. ELIZABETH HOYT ANSWERS THE QUESTION ? WHERE DO ALL YOUR IDEAS COME FROM?? SORT OF I was at a conference this last weekend and got asked the perennial author question, ? Where do all your ideas come from?? Authors have a tendency to either stare blankly at this question or laugh. The fact is, most of us have way too many ideas, but asking where they come from is like asking where the wind comes from. It?s just there, you know? (And yes, I know there's a scientific explanation for winds and how they start, but if you want to read about science today, go look at the Smithsonian website or something. Sheesh.) Anyway. So, usually there? Is just no answer to ? Where do all your ideas come from?? But, oddly enough, with my upcoming May releas
