Meet the Author:




Alysson Foti Bourque earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Juris Doctor degree from the Southern University Law Center. After practicing law for six years, she traded in writing trial briefs for writing children’s books. She enjoys public speaking opportunities at schools, conferences, and festivals nationwide. She hopes to inspire people of all ages to follow their dreams and believe in themselves. Currently, she resides in Sunset, Louisiana with her husband and two children.

What is the theme of your series? The Alycat series is a week-based series that has a different Alycat adventure each day of the week. The purpose of the series is to teach children that they can fix any problem that they encounter using imagination, creativity, and their friendships. Each book has relatable circumstances that readers can relate to and provide a resource to enhance their problem-solving skills and build self-confidence.
  • There are many children’s books out there. What makes yours different? The Alycat series is different from most books as each individual book has an add-on to compliment the story. Thursday Dessert Day has a recipe that readers can make at home after the story and Monday Blues has an original song featured in the book with the lyrics at the end of the story. The song can be found on iTunes and YouTube and the entire book is also on Novel Effect. Friendship Friday has a craft in the back of the story to make Alycat’s Friendship Bracelets.
  • I see that the series has won some awards. How many awards has The Alycat Series won? The Alycat series has won many prestigious awards including three Mom's Choice Awards (one for each book), Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA)'s Benjamin Franklin Digital Award, and American Book Fest's Best Book Award Finalist. The series was also honored to receive notable reviews in the Midwest Book Review!

    • What is your next project? Currently, I am finalizing the manuscript for the fourth book of the Alycat series that deals with luck, determination, and hard work. I am excited for Bugsy to have a prominent role in this story.
    • Speaking of Bugsy, you have a new Bugsy doll? Tell us about that. The character, Bugsy, was created in likes of my son, Carter. He is the quiet, lovable brother to Alycat who loves his family very much. At many of my book signings, I get asked if I have a “boy” character plush toy so it sparked the idea of having one made. And, my son is over-the-moon thrilled about the new Bugsy toy.
