A team of creepers otherwise known as urban explorers are gearing up for their next expedition to the famous Paragon Hotel. The group consists of Robert Conkin, a professor of history at the State University in Buffalo, Vincent Vanelli, high school teacher, Cora and Rick Magill both graduates from State University, and last but not least is Frank Balenger, a reporter with the New York Times Sunday Magazine. The Paragon Hotel was designed by Morgan Carlisle, who was a very wealthy man. Once inside the hotel the group starts running into some very bizarre and strange things including mutated critters. Beware those that go bump in the night. When I first read the summary for this book I thought this might be an ok work of fiction. It only took me reading a little ways into this book and I was hooked. David Morrell turned Creepers into a hauntingly, spine-tingling good old fashion horror novel. I found it spooky how each room in the hotel kept getting scarier and scarier; bring the group ...

Never Surrender

Image
I want to thank Valerie with Hachette Book Group for sending me this book to read. Never Surrender: A Soldier’s Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom is a wonderful emotional story about one man… Lieutenant General William G. Boykin . Boykin shares every step of his journey with readers from the first moment that he decided to go into the military to the end with he retires from it. I do want to state that Never Surrender: A Soldier’s Journey to the Crossroads of Faith and Freedom has nothing to do with attacking republicans or democratics but instead shows readers things that the media doesn’t tell you about including the strong bond that is formed between friends and turns out becoming the strongest band of brothers you will ever meet. The one thing I really found amazing about Lieutenant General William G. Boykin was his unwavering dedication to his faith in God. I thought this fact really made Boykin a man of honor, respect, and of great character. There are not many ...

I want to thank Lee Silver for sending me a copy of her book to read. I met her on GoodReads. Zane Tollison is owner of Tollison Consulting. One day he gets a call from Jonathon Chorde. Jonathon is from Clearwater Tobacco and he wants to hire Zane to conduct a survey to prove that Clearwater is not putting substances in their cigarettes to make them addictive to the female population. Mr. Chorde will pay Zane twelve million dollars for one week of work. Zane can’t believe his luck. This will be easy money. Zane will be working with Kathy in the Clearwater Tobacco labs during his week stay. The longer Zane stays; the stranger things start to happen to him. You know when they warn you that smoking cigarettes are bad for you…you don’t know how true that is till you read The Twist . The Twist was like Weird Science…the twentieth century version but in a good way. What a good sci-fi book The Twist turned out to be, which surprised me as I usually stray away from these types of books. The...

Make Me a Match

Image
I want to thank J. Kaye from J. Kaye's Book Blog for letting me read this book. Mrs. Holquist has been a favorite author of mine. All Cecelia Burns needed to do was shop for her wedding dress and make sure she had the perfect wedding but no instead she ends up dealing with a sister she hasn’t seen in a long time and for good reasons. Even though Cecelia and Amy come from a gypsy family, only Amy dresses, acts and claims to be able to tell people their true love’s name unlike Cecelia who wants to live a normal stress-free live. Amy tells Cecelia that she is making a mistake as her true love is named Finn Concord. Cecelia doesn’t believe Amy and decides to ignore Amy but it’s a little hard to do that when your sister tells you that your true love is about to die. Being a medical doctor, Cecelia would feel bad if she didn’t warn Finn that he was about to die even if she has no intensions to be with him. Cecelia has the perfect plan…it’s foolproof. Cecelia will drop off an anonymous n...

Queen of Blood

Image
Two years ago something so horrible happened that it will give you nightmares forever. A group of friends entered the House of Blood . It all was said and done only two people survived. Dream Weaver and Chad Robbins may be the lucky ones to have survived the House of Blood but they have never been the same since. Dream and Chad thought they were done with the master but they were wrong. A new evil has arisen and it’s out for revenge. Ms. Wickman despises the weak but oh how she loves to hear them scream and beg for mercy. Nothing’s worse than a woman’s scorn. I never read House of Blood so I can’t compare the master to Ms. Wickman but from what I read of Ms. Wickman, I definitely thought she was one mean woman if you can call her that. She will bring you down as well as help you up just so she can torture you all over again. Queen of Blood has all the makings of a good horror book. It has the scary factor, creepiness, gore and it will give you nightmares. So if you want to be scared...

Vampires have Humor too

The Isle of Man houses vampires known as leanan sidhe. They are beautiful women who live in sea caves. The leanan sidhes seduce men and take their blood to fill their red cauldrons. Margaid was warned by Mannan beg mac y Leir, leader of the leanan sidhes that if Margaid does not make her first kill soon than he will turn her into a kelpie. Margaid really doesn’t want to make Mannan mad, she would rather be a leanan sidhe than a kelpie. Margaid gets her chance when she comes upon Andrew. Andrew has come to the Isle of Man with his family. Andrew thought himself the luckiest man alive when he found himself making out with a random woman he just met. Just when Margaid is about to drain Andrew something unbelievable happens… to be continued. Talk about a cliff hanger huh? I guess you will just have to read A Fine Cauldron of Fish for yourself. I loved Margaid she was so funny the way she acted and the things she did but in an innocent way. As far as mortal men go, Andrew is a good guy. Wha...
